Hello, Military Writers Guild!
Welcome to this month’s MWG newsletter, part of a monthly series where you can find information about the MWG, what the guild has been doing, and how you can be involved.
This month’s newsletter includes: Updates, general reminders/news, and member notes!
Updates:
We held our first Board meeting of 2026 on 01–02 February, kicking off a busy year focused on member support, visibility, and sustainable growth. Key outcomes include:
Writers’ Retreat Grant Progress – The Board continues pursuing grant funding for a Guild writers’ retreat initiative, aimed at creating a dedicated space for members to hone their craft, collaborate, and strengthen our community of practice.
Podcast Launch & Speaker Series Refresh – The Speaker Series will be paused for reassessment later this year, with energy shifting toward developing Guild podcasts and guest interviews to spotlight member expertise, published work, and timely conversations in the field.
Expanded Support for Member Publications – The Board is strengthening efforts to promote members’ published work, beginning with the development of a curated list of publishing platforms to be shared via the website and social media, along with exploring additional ways to highlight member achievements.
As always, the Board welcomes member input. If there’s a topic you’d like us to discuss, an initiative you’d like to see explored, or if you’re interested in volunteering your skills for outreach, mentorship, podcast support, or a future subcommittee, please reach out. The Guild thrives on member engagement, and we’re eager to collaborate.
Our next Board meeting is scheduled for late April, and we look forward to building on this momentum in Q2.
We received an excellent response to last month’s request for information from author Phoebe Wills, thank you to everyone who reached out and offered their expertise!
